Optical Ground Wire (OPT-GW) is a dual functioning cable that performs the duties of a ground wire - also known as static wire - while providing a path for the transmission of voice, video or data signals by incorporating optical fibers into the design of the cable. Laser Welded Fiber Optic Tubes

As the inventor and owner of the technology for placing optical fibers into stainless steel tubes, AFL Telecommunications offers a range of tube sizes and fiber counts for a variety of applications. Each tube is flooded with a Thixotropic filling compound and hermetically sealed to protect the enclosed fibers from environmental degradation. AFL’s stainless steel tubes are suitable for use as a component in aerial applications such as Optical Ground Wire or for buried applications. Typical excess fiber length values are 0.30% with higher values available upon request. AlumaCore OPT-GW

AlumaCore OPT-GW is preferred for its performance under the most rugged conditions.  Its central aluminum pipe provides superb fiber protection making it ideal for the most basic installations to those requiring high tensions or extremely long spans.
