10-Gigabit Ethernet with "Quality of Service Bandwidth when and where you need it" - Getting 10 Gigabit Ethernet is good. Getting the quality of service (QoS) to process every packet perfectly is even better. Extreme Networks makes sure that enterprises and metro providers get both.
It's the only 10 gig switching solution with the muscle to blow through any bottleneck, plus the finesse to make the most out of every bit-without slowing performance. What's the secret? The industry's most advanced Policy-Based QoS capabilities for Ethernet, including bandwidth management, traffic shaping and traffic classification.
What puts Extreme's Policy-Based QoS so far ahead of the 10 gig pack?
Start with intelligent bandwidth management. It ensures precise control over the latency of every packet stream. That's not just good news for metro providers that offer guaranteed service levels for delay-sensitive voice and video. It's also a lifesaver for legacy apps that time-out when they run into enterprise-level latency. And Extreme's Policy-Based QoS does away with delay-related errors and time-outs that crop up when broadcast domains and VLANs extend over long distances.
There's more: Extreme offers the traffic-shaping tools that prevent bursty, bandwidth-hungry services and apps from hogging the wire. Better yet, packets that exceed their threshold are buffered until there's enough throughput to send them safely. And spare capacity can be exploited by any service or app that needs it. Extreme understands that even at 10 Gbps, if it's not being used, it's being wasted.
On top of that, Extreme offers comprehensive classification on eight queues that are on each outbound port. Classification can be explicit, relying on DiffServ and IEEE 802.1p tags. Or it can be implicit, based on incoming ports, IP source and destination addresses, IP Layer 4 application ports or MAC address. Equally vital for serious QoS deployments, Extreme handles these in-depth classifications with ease - even when performing Layer 2 switching.
So what's the business payoff for Extreme Networks' 10 gig solution? A 21st century infrastructure that's primed and ready for any emerging services and apps that come your way.
For Ethernet metro providers, that means immediate relief for points of presence (POPs) that are taking a beating. It also means it's easier to roll out new services and to enforce premium service guarantees for all traffic - even latency-sensitive voice and real-time video. What's more, Extreme delivers unsurpassed quality of service (QoS) across Ethernet metros using powerful bandwidth management, traffic shaping and traffic classification capabilities. So metro providers can guarantee the precise bandwidth each type of customer traffic needs, where and when they need it.
Enterprises have their own worries. But thanks to Extreme, they can stop worrying and start deploying 10 gig with QoS - between campus buildings, to remote data centers, to IP storage area networks and to high-capacity network-attached storage devices. Extreme is also ready to handle apps like clustering and IP SANs that use iSCSI. Porting SCSI to IP, iSCSI lets servers attach to iSCSI storage devices across 10 gig links. And smart bandwidth allocation means bottlenecks won't be problematic as apps become more complex or cluster processing-capacity grows.
