Copper to Fiber Media Converter with
Auto-Negotiation
The Fiber Driver EM316EFAN copper to fiber media
converter features an Auto-negotiating 10/100Base-TX data port. The copper data
port also supports Auto MDI/MDIX, allowing either a straight through or
crossover cable to be used when connecting the module to another network device.
In addition, the EM316EFAN incorporates Link Integrity Notification (LIN)
functionality. With LIN enabled, loss of link at either the copper or fiber data
port of the module will cause the other data port to be disabled, effectively
ensuring that each side of the data link is made aware that link has been lost
at some point along the data path. In this way, switches/routers at each end of
the data link can quickly react and redirect network traffic around the existing
problem using a link state protocol such as Spanning Tree or OSPF.
The
EM316EFAN media converters are available with either a Multimode (MM) or Single
Mode (SM) fiber data port. Distances up to 8 km can be reached over MM fiber,
and up to 135 km over SM fiber. Single Fiber SM versions are also available,
which use proven Fiber Driver technologies to combine TX and RX signals onto a
single fiber strand over distances of up to 100 km. |
